Trinity

Today I'm sharing with you this trio of mirrors that I recently finished and now they hang in my family room. All three mirrors are sourced from Ikea- the simple, inexpensive malma, and then finished by yours truly:).
The first in the series was done by me almost a year ago, the second one can be seen in my blog header...you can read more about it here. After the two, it just felt right..... to make one more and create a series.
And so....I finally made the third one.

How do you like it???

Creative rambling

It's been a while since I did some creative rambling on this space....so let me share with you, what has kept my hands busy in the past month or so....here are some in-progress projects and crafts.

Inspired by Kanika's bird hangings... I used a blue kurti that I wore on Holi last year, another old one that was put to use earlier as well; and made a bird and a heart....I plan to make a few more of these and then hang them in a group:)

One missed afternoon nap (for my son...) and this is how I amused him.... by painting this rock owl, inspiration found here

It's been a long time since I held my brushes, wanted to do another Ganesha painting. Here is a sketch of what I'll be painting soon....

And finally, a set of coasters made with IKEA paper napkins, tiles and some mod podge. My sister and I did this quick project while I was visiting her.

If you haven't already, check out these coasters at Sarmistha's blog.....she did a great job!

Have a good week!

My yellow wall...once again!

I have blogged about my living room and the yellow wall before....( see here & here). You can catch a glimpse of it in my present blog header as well...some may say that I'm obsessed with it, and I will admit that it's true to some extent....

My living room is an ever changing canvas for me, the only thing constant being the yellow/orange wall with the motifs. I keep adding, changing things around here....So this time I changes the artwork on the wall. Those of you following my blog may remember my recent post on frames that I found.

I have had the idea for a long time, and have been working on it little by little...finally I put it all together.
Here is what I did....I spray painted the frames a dull gold, and hung them together on this wall.

This is how the frames looked when I got them....

A close up of the painted frames on the wall...

Within one of the frames, I added a wooden block (coincidentally it was already painted golden from the time I used it for decorating a gift wrap)

In another one, I hung a Tibetan bell.

On the side of the frames, I added a wooden shelf with a hint of green and a small golden Buddha head.

Now, a little bit about this wooden shelf.....This was a garage sale find for a dollar. The moment I saw it, I fell in love with its old and rustic look with the carving. For one dollar, it was a steal. I have had this for a while, only waiting to find a good place for it.  May be now, it has....

So what do you all think of my new wall decor? Like it...???
I'm really not sure of what's looking good and whats not...?? I would love all the feedback on this, good as well as bad, do let me know.....

DIY: Earrings organizer

Hello my friends! Lets start the month with a DIY post. The blogosphere is a huge source of inspiration for me and every now and then I see something that I've got to try...

I have been on the look out for a stand to organise my huge collection of earrings and keep them in front of my eyes. When I saw this, I knew I had to try this out.....and it turned out pretty good I think. It was an extremely easy project.

The idea is not mine, I stole it from here

The frame dressed up with a handful of my favorite earrings, sits pretty on my bathroom vanity.

If you want to give it a try, the complete tutorial is here too. Mine cost less than $5, I used a frame that I got at the Dollar tree, picture hanging wire from Walmart for $2 and some brown and golden acrylic paint which I already had.

What d'ya say? Like it?

Getting a little crafty

A quiet afternoon at home and this is what kept me busy....I have confessed my fetish for handmade paper here and I also shared with you all the gift wrapping for my sister's wedding. Well, it was time to make use of all the left over scraps that I carried back with me from India.

The scraps of block printed hand made paper...

A very inexpensive wooden mirror from Ikea

mod podge and a brush...

I cut the paper into smaller pieces and then randomly arranged them to get an idea of the pattern.

And then I got to work.... the messy part with the mod podge. See the detailed technique here.

almost half way done...
And the result....My Paper Mosaic Mirror....

What do you think....? Like it....?

I'm still trying to find a place for the mirror.......on the wall...???

Or on the side table...?

A picnic and a makeover

Forgive me for I have been away from the blog for some time...You see, I was busy planning a picnic. Most part of last week went into the planning. The picnic was this Saturday at the Crews Lake Wilderness Park. The timing was perfect- just before the weather gets too hot here. There was a lot to plan- the menu, the games, the drinks, things to take....For our group of friends, food is definitely a priority...and so the menu planning began...there were snack idlis, corn and bean salad, papdi chaat, aloo bonda, chips n salsa. The snack idlis were made by moi and they came out great. Unfortunately, I don't have any pictures of the food...as usual it was all gone even before I realized it.  The highlight for the kids for the train ride at the park....they enjoyed it thoroughly, and fun for all. The train was really a cute one, with room for a lot of people to ride.

Thats my husband and son posing with the train driver:).

The little ones were having a ball playing in the fields.

Come Sunday, I had a project planned. An old bookcase was to get a makeover. This one had been lying in my garage and used as extra storage. Nothing really wrong with it, its from our apartment days, only it does't go well with the dark wood tones of our furniture.

I spray painted it white...

And here is the new look.

I brought it in my son's room, and arranged all his books in it.

Nice, isn't it? I like it. The project was very simple. What I'm really happy about is that I reused something and gave it a new life.
