Trinity

Today I'm sharing with you this trio of mirrors that I recently finished and now they hang in my family room. All three mirrors are sourced from Ikea- the simple, inexpensive malma, and then finished by yours truly:).
The first in the series was done by me almost a year ago, the second one can be seen in my blog header...you can read more about it here. After the two, it just felt right..... to make one more and create a series.
And so....I finally made the third one.

How do you like it???

The hunt is on....

....for two pallets...ideas anyone???

I'm eyeing this gorgeous table that I saw on pinterest and it looks simple enough to make, plus I have been wanting to CREATE a piece of furniture myself since the longest time...

I plan to use it in my newly paved patio....on those lovely sunny afternoons of cool winter days...... when I bask in my swing with some snack and a glass of fresh OJ.

How does that sound to you...? Tempting....:)
Won't you join me?

Will keep you posted on my progress.

All set for Diwali...?

The weekend was a very busy one....with prepping for Diwali day.... and the Diwali get together that I have planned for the coming weekend.
With Diwali falling on a Wednesday, I wanted everything to be all set over the weekend. We managed to do a lot....cleaned nooks and corners of the house, put up lights outdoors, prepared for the pooja, planned the menu for the party and then the most exciting part.....decorated the house.

I tried out lots of different ideas....
Decorating with wine glass lamps...such a simple idea- using block printed paper to make little lamp shades for wine glasses.

Lining up a row of tea lights on a bright colored table runner...don't they look lovely....?

Using a mercury glass tea light holder...I'm seeing mercury glass everywhere these days in stores. It adds to the glamour and zing of the decor and I'm loving the look:)

I'm all set for Diwali... Are you...???

Wishing you and your family a very Happy, Prosperous and Joyous Diwali!!!

Rangoli

Rangoli or Alpana has always been an significant part of diwali decorations for me, ever since my childhood.

My earliest memories of Diwali and its traditions, are of my mother making an alpana/rangoli in our puja area. The alpana pattern was made of a white paste of rice powder and then decorated with a hint of red. The pattern itself could be made of various forms- flowers, lotus, diyas, geometrical designs etc. The floor area covered with the alpana was considered sacred and worthy of placing all things to be worshiped. Traditionally, Diwali festivities last a few days starting with Dhanteras. The alpana once made, stayed intact for all the days till the festivities lasted.

As I grew older, I remember my sister and I making a rangoli every Diwali, near our entrance back in our home in India. As kids, amongst other things that marked Diwali as a special occasion, such as getting new clothes, gifts, lighting candles and diyas, fireworks; the rangoli was always one of the most exciting part for us. It was a way for us to express our creativity and be appreciated by all the guests that visited our home to bring Diwali wishes:)

Diwali, for me, is a very special occasion to celebrate... and I wish to always continue the rangoli tradition.

Here are a few shots of the Rangoli that I have made in my home past few years.

I hope you are all gearing up for the festive times ahead......My weekend is going to be packed with preparing for Diwali...and then Halloween!

Have a great weekend!

Decorating with Candles

The festival season draws near and I'm all about planning in advance:)
I've been collecting and trying decor ideas for the special occasions this year. As I promised in my earlier post,
here I am, sharing with you, the first in the series of candle light decor.
I hope you like it.

Now, for the how- to. As you can see, the idea is very simple. I just took a few glasses, wrapped them up with some twine and then some kalava with a few ghungroos tied in between.

If you have any such ideas...do share. I'd love to post about them here.

Creative rambling

It's been a while since I did some creative rambling on this space....so let me share with you, what has kept my hands busy in the past month or so....here are some in-progress projects and crafts.

Inspired by Kanika's bird hangings... I used a blue kurti that I wore on Holi last year, another old one that was put to use earlier as well; and made a bird and a heart....I plan to make a few more of these and then hang them in a group:)

One missed afternoon nap (for my son...) and this is how I amused him.... by painting this rock owl, inspiration found here

It's been a long time since I held my brushes, wanted to do another Ganesha painting. Here is a sketch of what I'll be painting soon....

And finally, a set of coasters made with IKEA paper napkins, tiles and some mod podge. My sister and I did this quick project while I was visiting her.

If you haven't already, check out these coasters at Sarmistha's blog.....she did a great job!

Have a good week!

My yellow wall...once again!

I have blogged about my living room and the yellow wall before....( see here & here). You can catch a glimpse of it in my present blog header as well...some may say that I'm obsessed with it, and I will admit that it's true to some extent....

My living room is an ever changing canvas for me, the only thing constant being the yellow/orange wall with the motifs. I keep adding, changing things around here....So this time I changes the artwork on the wall. Those of you following my blog may remember my recent post on frames that I found.

I have had the idea for a long time, and have been working on it little by little...finally I put it all together.
Here is what I did....I spray painted the frames a dull gold, and hung them together on this wall.

This is how the frames looked when I got them....

A close up of the painted frames on the wall...

Within one of the frames, I added a wooden block (coincidentally it was already painted golden from the time I used it for decorating a gift wrap)

In another one, I hung a Tibetan bell.

On the side of the frames, I added a wooden shelf with a hint of green and a small golden Buddha head.

Now, a little bit about this wooden shelf.....This was a garage sale find for a dollar. The moment I saw it, I fell in love with its old and rustic look with the carving. For one dollar, it was a steal. I have had this for a while, only waiting to find a good place for it.  May be now, it has....

So what do you all think of my new wall decor? Like it...???
I'm really not sure of what's looking good and whats not...?? I would love all the feedback on this, good as well as bad, do let me know.....
