A visit to an Antique store

As much as I would like to, I haven't had a chance to visit many antique stores.

However, on my recent trip to India, I had the pleasure to visit an antique store in Rajasthan, in the outskirts of the city of Jaipur. It wasn't any known place but my aunt had found it just by accident- almost like finding treasure:)

I was as excited to go as a little girl going to Disneyland.

The store housed a myriad of beautiful pieces, from lanterns to jharokhas, from old clocks to brass handis, from wooden blocks to carved furniture, and much, much more. I not only feasted my eyes but brought quite a few beauties home with me:)
I was a happy, happy gal!

Here are a few shots from my camera....while I strolled through the alleys of the three storied shop.

Peopletree, Delhi

This post is dedicated to Gagan @ Of peacocks and paisleys..., as she is also a fan of this store just like me.
'Peopletree' is a quaint little shop, hidden away in the alleys of Connaught place in Delhi. Peopletree has a wide variety of some very unique products-  books, stationery, jewelery, garments, accessories and some other knick knacks. Their designs are one of a kind and something that brings its customers back here time and again.

I discovered the store in my college days. One of my favorites was their block printed T-shirts. Here are a few shots of the products available here.

Naqsh

Remember I mentioned in my last post, a store at the Santushti complex worth a visit...Well, here I bring to you 'Naqsh'. 'Naqsh' makes one of a kind, hand embroidered home decor products such as cushion covers, wall hangings,  rugs and runners. Their unique designs are inspired by 18th and 19th century art deco and also by contemporary art. I especially liked this pair of cushion covers. The owner, Sumiya, aptly refers to them as the 'kissing faces'.

Here are more pictures of some interesting stuff at their store located inside the Santushti Shopping complex.

Santushti

Santushti shopping complex or 'Santushti' as most localites would call it, is a peaceful retreat, away from all the hustle and bustle of the crowded markets of Delhi. It is an upscale collection of shops nestled amidst beautifully manicured lawns. Terracotta pots and sculptures add to the tranquil surroundings.

And would you believe this....?
One can even spot peacocks roaming the gardens and then posing for some up close and personal shots.

One of the prominent stores in this place is  'Santushti Concept'- a treasure trove for artifacts from all over the country.

There is another very interesting store housed in this complex, but, I think it calls for a separate post. So keep visiting...

Crafts Museum, Delhi

I finally feel that I have recovered from the jet lag and the aftermath of a six weeks long trip. All my suitcases are unpacked, loads of laundry done, closets are some what in order and my home looks like, well, My Home. I feel so rejuvenated and refreshed after spending much quality time with all my family back in India. I'm now ready to embrace my routine here, ready to blog away and talk to you all my wonderful friends out there...!

What I have in store for you is pictures from my shopping adventures. Lets start with the Crafts Museum in Delhi.

The crafts museum in the heart of Delhi is a must see for a closer look at some of the popular crafts of India. I discovered the place just about 3-4 years ago. Ever since then, my trip to India is not complete without a visit here. The place is very calm and serene with beautiful surroundings. You can see life size terracotta figures right when you enter the complex which has a very village feel to it. One can also see the artisans at work,  creating pieces of art, available for sale right here.

The walls are adorned with beautiful paintings, like the miniature paintings from Rajasthan and the warli art from Maharashtra.

A very interesting aspect of the crafts museum is the display of bullock carts from various parts of the country.

As you enter the crafts demonstration complex , you can see crafts from all over India, the paper mache from Kashmir, miniature paintings from Rajasthan, Madhubani paintings from Bihar, Warli art, Orissa paintings and much much more....
