The beauty of flowers and what they mean to me...

I love the beauty of the gladioli and the fact that they come in so many colors...I have this purple one that bloomed recently in our yard, to me it's an unusual color that I haven't seen often.....

I cut it and brought it inside and made a table vignette on my side table....

Some may argue against growing gladioli in the yard as it yields just one single bloom in the entire year...But for me, each bloom brings back childhood memories....that is one of the main reasons I like this flower. As a child, I always remember having them in our garden back in India. My mother would be so happy to see them bloom and then they would find their way into our home in flowers arrangements, adding beauty to our home.

The joys of gardening...

I have tended to my garden a little more this season.........and the results are absolutely delightful. Every now and then, on my way out or back into my home, I stop to take a look at my garden, espy the new buds in my rose bush, admire a new bloom on my hibiscus or wait for that stem of gladioli to blossom...It gives me a sense of achievement to see the flowers bloom...and makes my heart very happy...Ahhh ...the joys of gardening!

Earthy Urns

All around me, I see people gearing up for spring, decking their yards, sprucing up their surroundings with colorful accents. While I add some flowers and greens here and there around my home, I have a Huge craving for some earthy looking urns for to my outdoor space and the inside decor. While wandering the web, these are some that really caught my eye.

I'm totally in LOVE with these terracotta urns. I spotted these on a home tour at P&P- these beauties deck the Ananths' home in Bangalore. Aren't they gorgeous?

A bright and sunny morning...

after two days of non stop rain- ain't that something to be thankful for!

We had a tornado warning in effect for yesterday, there were heavy winds, the outside was so grey and dull and all I did was curl up on the couch and watch TV.  It really brightens my mood to see the sun out....what a refreshing day it is!... and a wonderful beginning of the month.

I stepped out and took some pictures of the flowers in my garden.

Time well spent

Few weekends are as productive productive and enjoyable as the one that just went by. Mine are mostly spent relaxing, meeting up with friends, eating out, shopping and some mundane household chores. This time I was determined. I had to get some stuff done for my out of control to do list to get shorter.

Saturday was spent doing a lot of work in the patio and the garden. I cleaned up the patio, repotted a lot of my green plants

and brought some indoors.

With the nice warm weather, the soothing greens and my sweet smelling jasmine, I'm sure to spend a lot more time in my patio.

In the garden, lot of new spring plants went into the ground. I was busy working on my spring wishlist:).

I now have some lilies , yellow daisies, snapdragons, azaleas and jasmine in my garden. I will very patiently wait for the gladioli and calla lily bulbs to bloom. [Dear bulbs, please take your time but don't take too long as I am not a very patient person]

Saturday evening, we had a picnic at the community park. The kids and adults both had a very good time- kids were happy as they were outdoors with the swings and the slides, and the adults enjoyed as they chit chatted, got to know the neighbors and had some great food.

Sunday was the day to assemble my new bookshelves. I have been pining to get a bookshelf for my living room since a long time. Finally, it was assembled and ready to be dressed. Ahhh....the exciting part! Dressing it up!

All done for now.

No, no, no... that's not all that we did over the weekend...there's more. Sunday evening, we had a fabulous time at a barbecue at a friend's place. The weather was just perfect and the food was scrumptious- a great way to end the weekend.

This is what I call Time well spent.

Spring is in the air...

...hmmm....I can feel it for sure...the air around me is getting warmer,  flocks of birds are migrating to the north and the neighbors' yards are showing off some vibrant color. Yes, spring is almost here in my part of the world.

I have been longing to plant some flowering plants in my yard (so far I only have a couple of rose bushes and the gladioli bulbs from last year). So here is my wishlist for spring!

Some sweet smelling jasmine

fragrant plumeria or frangipani as many may call it
